Pink Dot Okinawa Event July 14th in Tembusu Square on Kokusai Street
Feel free to visit the facebook page for event updates: Pink Dot Okinawa
Info:
We are going to hold 'Pink Dot Okinawa' in order to show our solidarity with a same will/wish to realize more tolerant and inclusive society for LGBT.
We think the color of pink is a symbol of love, peace and inclusiveness.
LGBT & Allies communities in Singapore started 'Pink Dot' in 2009, and same events has been held in cities in the U.S. or other countries.
The color of pink also reminds us of 'PinkShirtDay' which call for anti-bulling in schools. The day originated from an action by 4 students. They bought and distributed 50 pink shirts after a male student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt on the first day of school.
Having been inspired and moved by these activities, we decided to hold 'Pink Dot Okinawa.' We hope to enlarge more tolerant and inclusive society in / from Okinawa with global LGBT & Allies communities.
'Pink Dot Okinawa' is to on 14th July in Tembusu square along Kokusai-street in Naha city, Okinawa. We release further information as details are fixed.
Okinawa is one of the most famous tourist areas in Japan and well-known for its mixed atmosphere with Japan and other asian areas. We hope that a great number of LGBT & Allies participants from all over Japan and foreign countries visit Okinawa and gather in 'Pink Dot Okinawa.'

「Pink Dot Okinawa」是一群人希望能夠創造一個「性少數能夠自在生活的社會」,為了表現自己的意念而穿上粉紅衣服的活動。
「Pink Dot」

Sorry For My Temporary Absence...
Due to my daughter having pneumonia and me having a sinus infection and finding out I'm pregnant and all those fun symptoms, I haven't managed to even get a copy of Venture Magazine this month nor have I been monitoring island events on my feeds.
My parents will be in town for the next two weeks as well. So, I'm hoping to get back to updating the blog and calendar by 2nd week of June. Hopefully by then all will be healthy and calm again around here.
Hope you all are finding plenty to do around island without me!
Thanks for understanding.

Temiji no En
“Kumiodori”
is a Ryukyu classical theatrical drama performed to the accompaniment
of vocal music. As the dialog is spoken in old Ryukyu Shuri dialect, it
is hard to understand for locals as well. It is recommended to know the
story before you go like Opera.
“Temiji no En” will be performed at
National Theatre Okinawa on April 28th. “Temiji no en” is based on a
love folklore. It is unusual that love story is selected as the subject
of Kumiodori. So it is good occasion to find a new attraction of
Kumiodori.
“Temiji” is an old wont of Okinawa of marriage tie. A woman give a man a suck of water from her hand.
The story is as follows. A man called Yamato met a woman,Tamatsi who
came to wash her hair at the well. Yamato took a shine to Tamatsi and
ask her to give him “Temiji”. Tamatsi turned down the proposal at first,
but Yamato threatened her that he will jump in the well. And Tamachi
was moved by Yamato’s impassioned proposal and gave Yamato some water
from her hand. Then they fell in love each other and promised to meet
again. Yamato visited Tamatsi at the one dark night. However a gateman
discovered the love tryst. Tamatshi’s parent ordered subordinates
Tamatsi’s execution at Chinen beach as an intriguer. Yamato rushed over
to Tamachi and persuaded subordinates to let Tamatsi go. Subordinates
were moved by him and Yamato and Tamatsi ran off together.
The
first part, traditional Ryukyu dances will be performed and Kumiodori be
performed at the second part. Please enjoy both traditional dances and a
drama performed in beautiful costumes.

Cars - Y Plate responsibilities and info
If
you are an US military member and drive a Y-plate car in this island,
you are required to follow some rules, such as buying both Japanese
compulsory Insurance(JCI) and American Insurance, getting inspection
every two years (most cars), and paying road tax every year.
And
road tax season is comming this year. Road tax amount is determined by
the number of your vehicle plate. Payment must be made by end of May in
Japanese yen only. You can pay at some places on designated date and
time on bases. Also, some insurance agency offices both on and off base
offer a service to take care of your road tax. If you pay through an
insurance agency, they pay your road tax at LTO and bring back your road
tax receipt. You take the receipt to Vehicle Registration Office on
Camp Foster near commissary gate, drive on Lane 2, they give you a Road
Tax sticker. Without the sticker after road tax season ends, your car
might be impounded at gate. So be careful. As for light vehicles or motorcycles, you are required to pay your road tax at a city hall near your place on your own.
To pay your road tax, you need these paper listed below.
★Japanese vehicle title
★Military vehicle registration
★2012 Road Tax receipt

Gravity Road / Ghost Slope
Do
you know of gravity road? It exists over the world. Gravity road, also
known as a magnetic hill. It is a place where the layout of the
surrounding land produces the optical illusion that a very slight
downhill slope appears to be an uphill slope. It is called "Yurei-zaka
or Obake-zaka"(Ghost slope) in Japanese. There is one in Kume island.
It's worth experiencing! Remember, bring something to roll like a ball.
